The next meeting will be on Thursday April 19, 2012 at Ricky’s in San Leandro CA. at 11:30 am.
During the general meeting several code related questions were brought to the floor. One topic that was dealt with extensively was the “break tank”. The following items were discussed:
-What a “break tank is.
-Why they are used.
-How they work and the different types of configurations.
-How they are sized.
-What the code requirements are.
-What the maintenance issues are.
-What experiences the larger jurisdictions have had with them.
Due to the variety of inspectors (from large and small jurisdictions) and contractors the discussion was very informative. Members who have had experience with this type of installation shared their knowledge.
Another topic that was discussed was “low-nox” water heaters. The members were able to give direction on how to find the exact requirements and who is the authority having jurisdiction.
Frank Park announced that the GBA was having their quarterly meeting the following Tuesday and would have a presentation on reclaimed/recycled water systems.
A motion was made and approved to send our Chapter’s officers to IAPMO Headquarters to participate in the California Chapter Summit.
During the meeting many side-discussions were held. Members were generous with their advice and opinions. Because of the breadth of experience and the willingness of members to share their knowledge, the meeting was a great success. Thanks to all who attended.
Lunch was served buffet style.
Tickets were drawn and prizes awarded. Special thanks to the raffle prize contributors: Sarah Aguilar & Southland Industries, Mo Salberg with KDS and Carl Cimino of Local 393 Training Center.
After the meeting was held Bob Adler sent us additional information regarding the break tank. He referred us to the definition of “House Tank” in the Illustrated Training Manual. He also sent us some drawings which show how they can be designed. If you would like this information please contact the Chapter Secretary.
